Praline Bacon Gourmet Popcorn has been a long time in the making but wouldn't have been one of my first gourmet popcorns to list or even make.
When I first moved to New Orleans from North Carolina, I went to Rouses (one of the regional Louisiana grocery chains) and found something very interesting in their bakery display. It was a pecan doughnut with maple frosting and two slices of crispy bacon on top. It looked like a "long john". At the time, I remember thinking "what a big, decadent little doughnut." It wasn't super appealing to me either, and I didn't try it. It seemed to rich and seemingly like a heart attack waiting to happen.
Two years later though, I put together a popcorn stand and online store with Pecan Praline Gourmet Popcorn and Bourbon Bacon Gourmet Popcorn as a couple of my very first popcorns.
I had always wanted to mix these two caramel corns together, and so I have. Ironically, coming back to the doughnut story with the bacon, maple and pecan doughnut I thought I never wanted to try, I realized I had already made something super similar to it. Maybe even a little more dangerous with brown sugar, butter, and corn syrup. But, in the end the Flavors weren't too rich or decadent but somehow blended together super evenly to make a gourmet popcorn that was amazing. I'm pretty sure y'all won't just like it but luv it!
I have to say there's also a restaurant in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans called Elizabeth's (http://www.elizabethsrestaurantnola.com) that really got me thinking about finally putting together this listing after brunch one Sunday morning recently where Praline Bacon was a appetizer option.
Praline Bacon Gourmet Popcorn is made with real crispy bacon, crushed pecans and is mixed evenly in a maple caramel. It's a very crunchy popcorn and is loaded with a great flavor that's not too much for ya and ya mouf.
